I am a digital artist and photographer in the Boston area looking for models with a unique fashion sense, goth, punk, tats, piercings, interesting costumes etc. to pose for both artistic photography and stock photographs. The stock photography would be used by other artists to create artwork. When this happens I will request a copy so you can have a print of the artists work and will also provide you with a cd of the photographs I took of you in exchange for your time.

If interested email me for details. Massachusetts/RI Areas ideal.

This is kind of a rant, it’s not geared towards anyone specifically or to be mean. I'm just letting off some steam about some serious unprofessional I encountered. Please read this all the way through before commenting

Okay, earlier this week I contacted a photographer who’s style I really liked. This photographer isn’t published in any major magazines, nor do they really seem to be known - however they have a nice style and he could go far.

My first warning was that his online presence seems very unprofessional. He types in all capital letters, uses internet speak, does not spell check, etc. Almost all professionals online understand the power of presence, and make the small effort to at least look like an adult when typing out their online resume - not this guy. Regardless I over looked the resume, for the art - I can mentally see a beautiful photo with the style that I think would be stunning.....so I commit myself to contacting this photographer.

Among the jumbled netspeak resume is that he charges models to shoot. In my experience as long as the shoot is worth a photographers time, they are willing to do tfp. With the ideal I had, I felt that I could take the risk and ask for a tfp. Some photographers take the tfp, others just say “no thanks, I just am too busy/booked/not interested/etc”, regardless the exchange is always respectful and mature.

Also to be blunt - modeling in my area does not pay enough for models here to be hiring photographers: Sad, but its true. We are more like an open artists community where everyone works together at some point in time. Its rare for a photographer to hire a model here, much less a model hire a photographer. The money in our industry in our area simply isnt there.

So - I contact asking if he would be interested in a tfp. I do not believe that models should pay photographers unless the model were to be buying the excusive rights for something like a personal pay site (and other commercial projects where the model is being paid), or if the photographer really will not benefit from adding the models style/presence to their portfolio. Tfp to me, is a great way for photographers to experiment with new styles and learn...then apply what they have learned towards paying clients.

So this guy responded. To start it off...he demanded that I pay for a TEST fashion shoot with him. We have a short exchange where he says he likes my look, but I need to read his online resume (all typed out in all caps, lots of netspeak, and bad grammer). The long story short is...... he ends up attacking and insulting me, and point blank stating because he had a fire that damaged all his gear he has to charge all models (um, what about...insurance? If he had a studio he had to legally have insurance upon the location - the same with a home. I know my law, insurance on property is universal in the USA).

Here are his final words on the matter of us doing a tfp shoot - keep in mind I was not asking for him to pay for a makeup artist, a stylist, to travel to me, no nudity in our shoot, or even pay for a location or clothing - I just asked for a tfp fashion shoot...here are his final words on me asking for a tfp shoot:
-------------
"THAT MITE WRK WITH "MM" PHTGRPHRS WHO WNT 2 SHOOT NUDES ETC.
U THNK I SEEM LIKE THAT?

NOT ME, NOT REAL SHOOTRS, NOT PROS. I HAD A FIRE, LOST ALL,

U SEEM LIKE AN ARTIST . BEST COMPLIMNT AN ARTIST CAN GIV 2 ANOTHR, PLEASE DON'T GET AN AMETURE SPOILED MODEL POINT OF VIEW THAT ONLY THE WEB WOULD GIV"
--------------

Yea, wow. Professional.
I just landed a nice higher paying job and actually reconsidered paying for him - but after such a statement over something as simple as request a tfp shoot, why would I want to?
